What to include in a Pet
Disaster Kit
These are some suggestions as to
what you could include to make a well-stocked pet disaster kit.
Earthquakes, floods, ice storms, Y2K, hurricanes, tornados, torrential
downpours, landslides, fires and other acts of God can make life a struggle...
without having to worry about finding the items your pet needs to survive.
Many of these incidents happen without warning... so it's always good to be
prepared in advance. Be sure to include enough supplies to support more
than one pet if you have them... and try to include about 5 days worth of
rations.
What to include:

|
- Copies of all documents for each
animal (i.e. licenses, vaccination records and/or medications)
- a toy to keep them occupied
- treats that they enjoy
- non spill bowls. One for
food, one for water
- a small litter tray with litter
(usually you can buy disposable ones at stores that are good for
temporary use. They are cardboard or plastic and come with
some litter already included)
- a syringe without a needle (good
for squirting into injuries or eyes to rinse clean)
- plastic gloves
- flashlight and extra batteries
- your list of emergency phone
numbers
- blanket (stored nearby)
- disposable instant cold packs
- terry cloth towel
- old bed sheets (good for tearing
into bandages)
- razor and blades (for shaving
and cutting hair)
- extra medication your pet may be
on
- disposable camera w/ flash (to
document accident scene, any animals that may have been in contact
with your animal, or unknown contagions, and for insurance purposes)
